There comes a time in every fair
maidens’ life when you must make a very tough decision. That time just so
happened to be last night for the many glittering and glamorous starlets of
Tinseltown.
Whilst we normal people dressed in
our Sunday bests drooled over our television screens, computer keyboards, or
for you tech saavy some type of a tablet, Hollywood’s finest showed up to this
year’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards in not just one, but many well executed
looks. From Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta, Anne Hathaway in Giambattista Valli
Haute Couture, Claire Danes in Givenchy, and many many more.
The looks
were to die for, don’t get me wrong, though, there were a few sour apples. To
mention a few Rose Byrne in Valentino, Michelle Dockery (or rather her aw
creating side boob) in Chado Ralph Rucci, and Elisabeth Moss in Dolce and
Gabbana. I would like to say that minor wardrobe fixes very well could have
been done to help change these looks…
But lets begin with our positives,
My personal best dressed lady is Anne Hathaway. After
spending the entire day catching up on my Paris Haute Couture shows and
recognizing this Giambattista Valli as a total stand out, I agree 200% with her
entire look. This look is so chic the Parisians are looking drab.
My second runner up is Claire Danes in Givenchy. This chick
had her first child a little over a month ago and looks so incredible, it
honestly doesn’t make too much sense. She rocked her Golden Globe’s look of a
red Versace gown, smokey eye and nude lip. This time around she sported a
reverse order look, a black Givenchy single arm gown, natural eyes and a wine
stained pout.
There must have been something in the air last night as my
top three pics all donned classic black. This funny lady stole the show last
night with her humorous and relatable acceptance speech, classic look, and just
being the awesome Tina Fey. In Oscar de la Renta last nights love perfectly
paired high volume hair, a body hugging (yet completely appropriate) gown, and
a defining gold and crystal belt.
Now on to my choices of worst (or to put it lightly, not so best dressed) dressed,
Michelle Dockery in Chado Ralph Rucci, plays Lady Mary
Crawley, and quite brilliantly. Her looks have been show stopping and
brilliant. But this look last night, I may be old fashioned when I say
this(hell I may belong as a character on the show), just was a wee bit
revealing for these peepers. I almost feel that if it was a solid (ie no side
bubbie) it would be a pretty intense dress, in the best of ways! I do commend
you, however, on taking such a chance.
This gown almost reminded me of the bridesmaids dress she
picked out in Bridesmaids. Rose Byrne has pulled off some pretty awesome red
carpet looks, and truly appears to know what works for her. But this Valentino
gown paired with her finger curled head of hair, was just slightly… not lovely.
It almost looks like a bad bridemaids dress the more I think about it! I’m
sorry to be harsh, but someone has to be.
Peggy, I mean Elisabeth Moss… you are a smart, chic, strong
young lady. But was it really all that appropriate to show up an awards show in
a cocktail dress? I mean even Jennifer Lawrence managed to change her dress
from cocktail to evening gown (as everyone clearly witnessed). Honestly your
Dolce and Gabana dress is ah-mazing! In fact this could have been pretty
stunner if it was even floor-length! It was just a little too casual, that’s
all. Girl you’ve got style, just not so much last night…
P.s. the gents were looking rather dapper too! With the
exception of Alec Baldwin’s hair, Justin Timberlake’s (sorry babe…) Tom Ford
suit, and Taye Diggs pocket napkin. Damien Lewis in Burberry, Bradley Cooper in
a two-toned Tom Ford tux, and that hunk of meat, Van Helsing, or Wolverine, nay
Jean Valjean… also known as Hugh Jackman in Prada.
Noooo…
This is just a no. Really, there is nothing else
to say.
Had it not been the awards, but instead our wedding… This
would be acceptable! I love Tom Ford suits, I love plaid, I love you (not you
reader, JT)… but this just doesn’t really work.
I’m sorry Taye Diggs, you and my other husband are just not
rocking it. You are very handsome, but unless that pocket tissue has a purpose
other than wiping away the tears of joy from my face, why do you have it? You
are not a 70 year old man with sinus issues, are you? No.
Yessss!!
Damien Lewis in a navy Burberry tux. The blinds do match the
carpet… Get it… he has red hair and the carpet is red!
Bradley Cooper in a two-toned navy and black Tom Ford tux.
Granted his hair resembles that of David Cassidy in the Partridge Family, but
he is still very handsome.
Hugh Jackman in Prada. Even under that tux, and forgetting
his mangy corpse in Les Mis, I can see the muscles of every Sci-Fi hero this
spicy quesadilla.. Hmmmm.
So for now my favorite people. May you dream of these
starlets from nights forth coming.
